It's Not About Right vs. Left It's about Right vs. Waste!
Vedat Gashi claims he “cut property taxes every year.” But the facts tell a different story. The county property tax levy, combining the Operating Budget and Special Districts, has increased by nearly $37 million, while sales tax revenue soared by $228 million (30.7%) to fund a surge in spending.​
During his time in office, the Westchester County budget grew by nearly $400 million, from $2.1 billion to almost $2.5 billion. During this same period, county payroll ballooned by $73 million (+16%) even though staffing rose minimally (+3%). Most of that growth went to political appointees, with spending on general government and administration up sharply.

The County Executive’s salary jumped from $160,760 to $230,000, and top staff salary ranges expanded by 25% to 40%. Gashi himself, a private attorney and the highest-paid county legislator in New York State, earns more from his part-time role than the average Westchester household makes in a year.
As a result, taxpayers now pay more for the same government without seeing more service.
The numbers from Gashi's own adopted budgets tell the story:

Bureaucracy Up 30% — spending on general government and administration skyrocketed.

Public Safety Costs Up 33% — yet probation and community supervision saw staff cuts, and crime continues to rise in Westchester.

Health Spending Up 29% — with payrolls permanently inflated post-COVID despite fewer investigations and tests.

Debt Up 20% — with bonded debt growing from $1.19 billion to $1.43 billion, and a 66% spike in unfunded projects that push costs to future taxpayers.

Honoring Our Heros
On May 31, 2025, Hudson Valley Honor Flight Mission #36 returned to Westchester County Airport, bringing home 56 veterans after a day of remembrance in Washington, D.C. These men and women visited the nation’s war memorials built in their honor and were welcomed back by a crowd of cheering families, friends, and supporters.
Kevin O’Keefe was proud to attend and stand alongside our community in recognizing the service and sacrifice of these heroes. His ongoing support of veterans reflects a deep commitment to ensuring their dedication is never forgotten.
